Because we use the ideal combination of hand seleted Solid Sitka Spruce on the front and Solid Mahogany for the back and our hand stratified Mahogany sides, big Jake ( and the 350JLS) are plenty voiceful even when unplugged. Archtops aren’t known to scream loud and often sound more muffled compared to flat tops when unplugged but let Michael August show you what Jake sounds like unplugged.
The clarity of tone and volume comes in part from the hand-stratified side wood. Using hand-stratified side wood isn’t a trade secret, its simply the ways premium instruments were made before industrialized cheap laminate wood became the rage. Yes, it’s much more expensive than laminate and requires more labour to use but the results speak for themselves. Let it rip Michael, we’re listening!
