The Shari Ulrich D90-GT Dreadnought Tenor Songbird ~ Island Sunset
~ The only Dreadnought Tenor Guitar played by Juno Award Winning Singer/ Songwriter Shari Ulrich
The Craven Tenor Guitars of Canada Shari Ulrich Songbird Dreadnought is a decisive achievement: the first authentic, D90-GT dreadnought‑tenor, precisely scaled and braced as a true dreadnought‑class tenor by Craven — the acknowledged leader in premium, innovative tenor guitars. Confident in projection yet refined in nuance, the Songbird Dreadnought sets a new benchmark for power, balance, and playability in the tenor guitar hemisphere.
THE DREADNOUGHT TENOR HAS ARRIVED.
90% Dreadnought Size. 23″ Tenor Scale. Four Strings. One Very Big Voice.
This is not a small guitar trying to sound big.
It is a purpose-built Dreadnought Tenor Guitar, researched, engineered and refined over an entire year with one objective: to create the largest Dreadnought-style tenor guitar possible while preserving the powerful tonal character, projection and depth associated with the original six-string Dreadnought.
Built at approximately 90% of full Dreadnought size, this instrument brings an unusually large acoustic body to the tenor guitar world. The 20″ body, generous 14.25″ lower bout and 4.75″ body depth provide the air volume and top surface needed to create the authority players expect from a Dreadnought, while the 23″ scale gives the instrument the playability and feel of a true tenor guitar.
At the heart of the instrument is a hand-selected torrefied Sitka spruce soundboard, chosen for its combination of clarity, responsiveness, warmth and played-in tonal character. Torrefied Sitka is widely used by contemporary builders seeking a more mature, responsive voice from new instruments, while retaining the articulation and dynamic range associated with spruce.
The soundboard is paired with Hand Selected Solid Rosewood back and sides, a Mahogany neck, a 100mm soundhole, and Variegated Ebony fingerboard. Every component has been selected as part of the overall acoustic design rather than simply assembled as a collection of premium materials.
The result is a tenor guitar built around the idea that four strings should not mean four-string limitations.
This is a big-bodied tenor designed to deliver the qualities players associate with a Dreadnought: depth, projection, warmth, punch, sustain and a commanding acoustic presence.
The goal was never to build the biggest tenor guitar just for the sake of size.
The goal was to find the largest practical Dreadnought tenor body, then engineer the top, bracing, scale length and acoustic response around it so the instrument could retain the character that made the six-string Dreadnought a legend in the first place.
Big body. Shorter scale. Four strings. Dreadnought voice.
This is the Dreadnought Tenor Guitar.
